AI face search for wedding photos: 8 things to check before you pay

By Bhartendra · 24 Oct 2026 · 6 min read

AI face search has become the standard way to share wedding photos with guests in India. The idea is simple: the studio uploads the photos, guests scan a QR code, take a selfie, and see only the photos they are in. There are now many apps that do this, and on a pricing page they all look alike.

They are not alike at a 600-guest wedding. This checklist is what we would test before paying for any of them, including ours.

The short answer

Test face matching on your own difficult photos, check whether photos reach guests during the event or only after, ask how guest selfies and privacy are handled, confirm guests get full-quality downloads, and work out the real cost for a full season including GST. Then check the parts studios forget: album selection, branding, and what happens after the wedding.

1. Face matching on your own photos, not the demo

Every demo uses well-lit portraits. Indian weddings give you dark sangeet stages, turmeric-covered faces at the haldi, side profiles during pheras, ghunghat and sehra, and crowded baraat shots with fifty faces.

Upload one real event, including the hard parts, and check:

  • Does a guest's selfie find them in group photos, not just close-ups?
  • Does it find them in low light and in side profile?
  • How many wrong photos appear in their results?

A missed photo is a small loss. A wrong person's photo in someone's results is a privacy problem, so wrong matches matter more than missed ones.

2. Live delivery, or only after the full upload

Some apps only work once the whole event is uploaded and processed. Others add photos to each guest's results as the studio uploads during the wedding.

If you want guests sharing photos from the haldi while the sangeet is still being set up, ask directly: "If I upload 200 photos now, how long before a guest's selfie finds them?" See same-day photo delivery at weddings for how studios run this on the day.

3. How guests get in, and what they agree to

Guests should be able to open the gallery in a phone browser from a QR code or link, with no app to install. Beyond that, check:

  • Consent: do guests agree before taking a selfie, and can they skip face search and just browse?
  • Who sees what: can a guest see only their own photos, while the full gallery needs a passcode from the family?
  • Photos with others: if the app shows photos of a guest with their family or friends, does it ask both people first?
  • Search engines: are wedding galleries kept out of Google results?
  • Opting out: can the family turn face search off for one wedding if they prefer a passcode-only gallery?

India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act treats a face as personal data, and its notice and consent rules apply fully from May 2027. Ask the app how long selfies are kept and how a guest can withdraw. More on this in is AI face search safe for wedding guests.

4. Full quality downloads

The whole point is to beat WhatsApp compression. Download a photo as a guest and check its size and resolution against your original. Also check whether full-quality delivery is on every plan or only the bigger ones. Background in how to send full-quality photos on WhatsApp.

5. Your studio's name on every screen

Every guest who opens the gallery is a potential client. Check that your logo, colours and watermark appear on every screen, and that the app does not put its own brand in front of yours. A gallery shown to 500 guests should advertise your studio, not the software.

6. The real cost for a season

Pricing pages mix monthly and yearly rates, storage limits, photo limits, event limits and "plus GST". Work out one number: what will a full season of your weddings cost?

Question Why it matters
Is it priced by storage, by photo count, or per event? Decides whether big weddings cost more
Is GST included or extra? 18% on top changes the comparison
How long does an event stay live? Some galleries expire, some can stay forever
Is there a pay-per-event option? Useful in the off season
Are face search and full-quality delivery on every plan? Cheap plans sometimes leave them out

7. What happens after the wedding

Guest sharing is one day. The couple's album selection takes weeks or months. If your face search app and your selection tool are different, the couple juggles two links and you match file names by hand. Check whether the same gallery handles album selection and helps you find the original files for the editor. See album selection on Excel, WhatsApp or an app.

8. Support during the wedding season

Something will go wrong at 11 pm during a sangeet. Ask how you reach support, in which language, and how fast they reply in November.

How Vyavasth answers these

We build Vyavasth, so read this part with that in mind:

  • Face search is opt-in: guests agree before the selfie and can skip it. My People shows photos of two guests together only when both have agreed.
  • Photos are added to each guest's My Photos as you upload during the event.
  • Guests sign in with their WhatsApp number or Google. The full gallery opens with the family's passcode. Face search can be turned off for one event.
  • Galleries carry your logo, colours and watermark, and are kept out of Google search.
  • Album selection with Smart Selects, and finding the original and RAW files for the editor, are part of the same gallery.
  • Plans are priced in rupees, with a pay-per-event option. See pricing and the face search page.

Frequently asked questions

What is AI face search photo sharing?

It is a way to share event photos where each guest takes a selfie and the app finds every photo they appear in. Guests open the gallery from a QR code or link, so nobody scrolls through thousands of photos.

How accurate is face search at Indian weddings?

It depends on the app and the photos. Low light, side profiles, veils and crowded group shots are the hard cases. Test any app on one of your own real events before paying.

Not with most current tools. Guests open the gallery in their phone's browser from a QR code or link and take a selfie there.

Using face search with guests' consent is common practice. India's DPDP Act treats faces as personal data and its consent and notice rules apply fully from May 2027, so choose a tool where guests agree before taking a selfie and can skip it.
