How to get more Google reviews for your photography studio
By Amit · 18 Oct 2026 · 3 min read
Most wedding studios in India have far fewer Google reviews than the number of weddings they have shot. A studio with 200 weddings behind it often has 30 reviews. Couples are happy, but nobody asks at the right moment, and asking later rarely works.
Reviews matter more than most studios think. When a family searches "wedding photographer near me" or the studio's name, the review count and the latest reviews are often the first thing they see.
The short answer
Ask when the client is happiest, make leaving a review take one tap, and ask everyone who saw your work, not only the couple. For a wedding studio, the happiest moment is when people first see their photos.
Why studios do not get reviews
- They ask too late. A message a month after the album is delivered gets ignored.
- They ask only the couple. The couple is two people. The guests who loved their photos are hundreds.
- It takes too many steps. "Search for us on Google and leave a review" loses most people at the first step.
- The photos travel without the studio's name. Photos forwarded on WhatsApp carry no link back to the studio.
A simple review system
1. Get your direct review link
In your Google Business Profile, use the option to ask for reviews and copy the short link. It opens the review box directly, so clients skip searching.
2. Ask at the moment of delivery
The best moment is when people see their photos for the first time: the preview after the wedding, or when guests open the gallery and find themselves. Put the review link right there.
3. Ask the guests, not only the couple
Every relative who finds a good photo of themselves is a potential review. A gallery that shows a review prompt to every guest who opens it collects far more than a single WhatsApp message to the couple. On Vyavasth, every gallery shows a one-tap Google review prompt.
4. Make it personal when you ask directly
For the couple, send a short message in your own words after they react to the preview: thank them, mention one moment from their wedding, and include the link.
5. Reply to every review
A short, specific reply ("Thank you, the varmala photos were our favourite too") shows future clients that a real studio is behind the profile.
What not to do
- Do not buy reviews or ask friends to post fake ones. Google removes them and can penalise the profile.
- Do not offer discounts in exchange for positive reviews. Asking for honest reviews is fine; paying for good ones is not.
- Do not copy the same text into several reviews. It looks fake and gets filtered.
A checklist for every wedding
| Step | When |
|---|---|
| Review link added to your gallery or delivery message | Before the wedding |
| Preview shared with the couple, with the review link | First week |
| Guests see the review prompt when they open their photos | From the day of the wedding |
| Personal message to the couple | After they react to the preview |
| Reply to each new review | Within a day or two |
Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to ask a wedding client for a review?
When they first see their photos, usually at the preview or when they open the gallery. Asking weeks later, after the album is delivered, rarely works.
How do I make it easy to leave a Google review?
Use the direct review link from your Google Business Profile. It opens the review box in one tap instead of asking people to search for your studio.
Can wedding guests leave reviews too?
Yes. Any guest who was photographed and saw the photos can review your studio. Guests are the largest group of happy people at any wedding.
Is it allowed to offer a discount for a review?
Asking for honest reviews is fine. Offering money or discounts in exchange for positive reviews goes against Google's rules and can get reviews removed.
